Abelia (Abelia x grandiflora)
Abelia shrubs are available for hardiness grow zones 6 to 9. In zone 6 they are semi-evergreen, losing up to half its leaves in areas with very cold winters. Some varieties are known for their graceful, arching branches while others are more spreading. Abelia have been a favorite in southern landscapes for quite a few years. It has re-gained interest with some of the newer introductions that are a bit more compact.
Abelia shrubs are pretty easy to grow & maintain. They can handle shady to partly sunny areas and are drought resistant once established. They are also deer resistant.

Abelia shrubs have been in landscapes for a long time and have emerged as a popular evergreen shrub again. One reason for the resurgence in popularity is because they require very little care.
Abelia perform the best if planted in partial sun but can handle full sun. Be sure to water Abelia's during any extended period without rain.
Abelia shrubs can be pruned. It is best to wait until after they have been established for a few years. Pruning is best done in spring. Abelia can withstand being pruned back substantially.
