There are 3 distinctly different types of online nurseries. It’s important to know who you’re buying from as much as where the plants will be shipped from.
#1 – Your typical retail nursery, similar but usually larger than a local retail garden center or nursery. They order plants from growers, take care of them in their field(s) and then ship them to people like you as the orders come in on their website.
#2 – Growers who usually just sell wholesale but have created a retail website. While you may get a lower price you also have to realize that many growers are used to sending truckloads at a time, not boxing and sending individual evergreen shrubs to consumers. We recommend you to call them & ask the right questions.
#3 – Drop Shippers. Websites that don’t have their own fields with plants and use third party nurseries to ship their orders. Your big box folks like Home Depot & Lowes online plant sales rely on third party nurseries to ship their orders. Nature Hills Nursery is another example.
