TyTy Nursery Review
The overall rating for TyTy Nursery, also known as TyTy GA and TyTy Plant Nursery, came in at 75.5 and their grade comes in at a C. This puts them at 16 in our top 20 rankings.
We want to acknowledge that TyTy has not had the best reputation in the past. Having said that, we were not aware that TyTy had been sold. A Manager who had been with the previous owner for 10 years bought TyTy Nursery back on August 1, 2017. They reached out to us to emphasize their commitment to the customers. TyTy’s owner also mentioned that they were developing a new site, which rolled out in 2023.
New Look!
The new site has been rolled out and it looks so much better! It is super fast and easy to navigate around and the plant sizes are marked. They also debuted a new logo. It is a huge improvement over the old site.
Conflicting Ship Times
Every product page we looked at said:
Shipping Time: In Stock Usually Ships Next Day
But the ‘Shipping Information’ tab says something different. As an example, their Honeycrisp Apple Tree says;
Delivery Time: Deciduous Fruit Trees ordered during their current shipping season (usually December through April) are shipped dormant within ten days of the date of order, weather dependent.
Which is it? Ships next day or within 10 days.
Then we decided to look at their evergreen shrubs. We couldn’t find a listing for them. Under their general shrubs collection, they had 31 shrubs listed, not all of them evergreen. Using their site search for ‘evergreen shrubs’, 59 plants were listed. That is confusing.
We found the same discrepancy in the shipping times. On a Jasmine shrub, it stated; Shipping Time:: In Stock Usually Ships Next Day
The Shipping Information tab on the product page said; Delivery Time: Shrubs and Vines are shipped October through May and should ship within ten business days from when the order was placed, while in the current shipping season.
I would call them before ordering anything to get a verified shipping time frame.
Making Low Price Claims Easily Proven Wrong
It’s also disturbing when they make bold claims that are easily proven false. They list 1 to 2-foot Thuja Green Giants at $27.95. Again, the bold banner above claims the highest quality at the lowest prices.
A quick Google search shows me Fast-Growing-Trees.com has them at $15.95, Garden Goods Direct has 1-2 footers at $18.95 and Planting Tree is at $19.95.
Maybe they claim that their quality is better than others, so the price isn’t relevant comparatively. We’ll see. A friend just ordered a 1-2 foot Green Giant from TyTy. We’ll compare pictures of their 1-2 foot Green Giant Arborvitaes from the other 3 nurseries and let you decide.
Free 1-Year Guarantee
Most online nurseries are now offering an extended 1-year warranty. It usually costs about 10% of the product cost. You will usually need to submit photos with any claim and at best you get a store credit for the products.
TyTy Nursery is offering a year guarantee for free. They call it Plantsurance. As the site states; “As long as the plantsurance request is within 365 days of receiving the merchandise and within the proper recommended USDA Zones you will receive a store credit for the value of the plants that did not survive transplanting.”
TyTy Nursery claims they don’t ship bare root plants. They call it ‘Eco-Wise’ which they describe as removing all excess soil. Sounds to me like bare root. Technically they do sell some container-grown plant material but they remove the container and soil before shipping. Those plants would not technically be considered bare root.
Removing the dirt gives TyTy savings on ship costs. They eliminate the heaviest part. Their ship costs, however, are not reflective of their lighter weight. Their shipping charges are roughly 20% of their product cost. In our opinion, that is a lot. You will pay roughly the same 20% shipping cost at other online nurseries and they come with the container and dirt!
TyTy Terms of Service and Return Policy
In the past, the language was confusing and lengthy. The Terms and Conditions have been cleaned up… a lot. They charge a 15% restocking fee if they accept your cancellation but that is not the worst we have seen. TyTy reached out to us about their policy and clarified it for us. “We charge a 15% cancellation fee only if the order has shipped or if the customer returns the plants at no fault of Ty Ty Nursery. A customer can cancel an order anytime before it ships for a full refund no cancellation fee.”
Their shipping and returns page is pretty long but includes good information, including various ship schedules and ship rates. There’s a lot to digest but at least none of the dreaded all-caps attorneys love to include.
We have to give them credit for offering a reasonable refund policy if there are ship delays. Dealing with live plants, there are all sorts of issues that can happen. If it takes more than 10 days to ship (in season), they will refund you upon request. Here’s their language;
if for any reason we do not ship the product ordered within such ten ten-day shipping period, the customer will, upon request, be promptly refunded in full the entire purchase price for such product unless the customer has confirmed that the delayed shipping date is satisfactory to the customer. If for any reason we do not ship the product ordered within an estimated delayed shipping date confirmed by the customer, the customer will be promptly refunded in full the entire purchase price paid for such product, upon request.
TyTy Nursery Google Reviews at a 3.6
TyTy Nursery Google customer reviews are not the worst we have seen. When we last checked, Google listed 2,369 customer reviews with an average star rating of 3.6. That rating slipped a bit in 2023. We skimmed through the most recent reviews and it seems to be one extreme or the other. There have been more 4 or 5-star reviews in the past month than there are 1 or 2-star reviews.
The one positive is that TyTy does not shy away from negative reviews. They reply to most of them asking the customer to contact them.
They have 117 complaints on file at the Better Business Bureau. That is the second most of any online nurseries we monitor. The BBB grades TyTy at a B. If there’s any positive spin, they seem very responsive to the complaints to get them resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
They have been around for quite a while. The latest owner has been at the helm for almost 5 years now. There have been some improvements. In our opinion, if you want cheap trees & shrubs, you can find them at TyTyga.com.

- Ship costs are high considering they ship with no soil.
