Are Snake plants toxic to dogs and cats?

Snake plants are considered mildly toxic to both cats and dogs. Sansevieria, the Snake Plant, also called Mothers-in-Law tongue, contain saponins. These are natural chemicals produced by the plant to protect it from insects, microbes and fungi. The level of toxin, however, is relatively low and the complications for a pet that ingests the plant are usually limited to gastrointestinal upset. Just to be safe, take your pet to the vet right away if you suspect they have ingested any part of a snake plant.
