The Improved Dwarf Meyer Lemon tree is by far the most popular citrus tree. It is a lot less sour than store bought lemons because they are a cross between a Mandarin orange and a Eureka lemon.

The Mexican Key Lime is also a best selling citrus tree because it grows more as a bushy tree. It is easy to grow in a container and brought indoors for winter in colder climates.

Mandarin Orange trees, like the Clementine Mandarin Orange, are super popular because they are sweet and very easy to peel. Like most other dwarf citrus trees, they can be grown in containers and brought indoors in colder climates.

Planting Tips & Care for container grown citrus trees & shrubs:

Plant your citrus trees in a rich planting soil with an organic mix of compost or manure. If you plant them in a plastic container, make sure to drill a drainage hole on the bottom. Most clay pots come with the drainage hole but most plastic ones do not. Water them weekly the first year.  Water only when the soil is dry after the first year.

Fertilizing in spring is best for most citrus trees and there are special citrus fertilizers available online and at some hardware stores.

Pruning is not recommended for most dwarf and semi-dwarf citrus trees & shrubs. If you need to prune for height to allow it to be indoors in winter, do so after harvesting all the ripened fruit but before it starts to flower again. If your tree is bushy, you can remove some of the lower branches to keep it more in a tree form.
