Description

Autumn Lilac is another re-blooming Encore® Azalea that is cold hardy to grow zone 6. It offers months of blooms in spring, summer and fall. This is considered a semi-dwarf Rhododendron because it doesn’t get more than 4 feet high and wide. The blooms are a rich lavender with freckles of dark purple. The leaves start out dark green but quickly transiiton to a light green.

Autumn Lilac Encore Azalea is extremely attractive if used in a mixed border with reds and pinks. As a semi-dwarf this azalea also looks great in containers.  Just avoid an area that gets a lot of sun, especially late afternoon sun in the summer. Autumn Lily prefers dappled sun, meaning sun filtered through branches of overhanging trees.

Autumn Lilac Encore Azalea growth rate is slow. Many people prefer to buy a 3 gallon container size so they can enjoy better results sooner. Pruning Autumn Lilac, like most Encore Azaleas, is not needed. They have a ntaurally dense, mounded growth habit that stays pretty neat. If you do want to prune the occasional stray branch, it is recommended to prune in late fall, after it is done blooming.
