Moonshine Snake Plant, Sansevierias, or as they are commonly called Mother-in-law’s Tongue have a rich history of cultivation. In China, the plants were kept near the entrances inside the home and also were placed in fine restaurants, herbalists, acupuncturists, doctor’s offices, accountant’s offices, banks, shrines, monastaries, and even in rice paddies.

Moonshine snake plant’s has silvery upright, sword shaped leaves. These create an almost modern architectural feel to your home or office. Snake plants are popular because they are low-maintenance, drought-tolerant, and known for it’s air-purifying abilities. Great plant for beginners.

Are Snake Plants safe for dogs & cats?

They are considered mildly toxic to both cats and dogs. Sansevieria, the Snake Plant, also called Mothers-in-Law tongue, contain saponins. These are natural chemicals produced by the plant to protect it from insects, microbes and fungi. The level of toxin, however, is relatively low and the complications for a pet that ingests the plant are usually limited to gastrointestinal upset.

Does the moonshine snake plant clean the air?

Snake plants, and in particular, the moonshine, absorbs toxins from the air and produces oxygen. It is unique that it does not produce carbon dioxide at night with the absence of photosynthesis. Just pure oxygen. That is why they are popular for bedrooms.
