Sea Green Juniper is a spreading evergreen shrub with very unique, mint green foliage. Similar to some ground cover Junipers, Sea Green is popular on slopes for soil erosion. Just keep in mind it can grow up to 6 feet tall.

It’s not often you hear of a shrub that is deer proof. Deer resistant, yes, but Sea Green Juniper is truly deer proof. It also one of the few shrubs that can thrive almost anywhere in the United States, from Grow Zone 4 through 9. Sea Green Juniper growth rate is considered fast.

Sea Green Junipers prefer full sun, although avoid planting it in southern grow zones where they will get a lot of late afternoon summer sun.They are very adaptable to most soil conditions as long as they drain well. Dig your planting hole about twice as wide as the container size. Sea Green Juniper roots are known to spread out, having loose soil extending out will help promote faster root growth. If you have sandy or clay soils, amend (mix) about half the soil you dug out with a high quality top soil or compost. Place 3 inches of mulch around the base of the shrub.

Sea Green Junipers can handle heavy pruning. They are popular as a medium size hedge or for privacy along a patio when kept pruned roughly 3 to 4 feet wide. If that’s your intention, space them 4 feet apart off-center of the shrub. If kept in their natural growth form, plant 5 feet apart on center.
