Bloom-a-thon Red is another Azalea from the Proven Winners Color Choice® selection that can handle full shade. There aren’t many evergreen shrubs that can thrive in full shade, let alone give you months of bright red blooms. This rhododendron blooms on new & old wood continuously from spring all the way until the first hard frost.
Bloom-a-thon Red is an improved variety with dense, bushy foliage. This makes them great for a medium size hedge. Just make sure they don’t get any late afternoon sun, especially in summer. They would also look great in containers in shady areas around your patio or front porch.
Growth rate for the Bloom-a-thon Red Azalea is considered moderate, roughly 12 inches a year. They rarely need pruning but if you want to clean it up a bit, do it wither late fall, after they are done blooming or late winter, before new growth emerges.
